Conway Women's Health Center

What to Expect at Your First Prenatal Appointment
Finding out you are pregnant is an exciting and emotional time, and your first prenatal appointment is an important step in beginning your pregnancy care. At Conway Women's Health Center, our providers are here to answer your questions, review your health history, and help you feel prepared for the months ahead.
When Should I Schedule My First Prenatal Visit?
Most first prenatal appointments are scheduled early in pregnancy, often around 8 weeks, depending on your individual needs and medical history. Once you have a positive pregnancy test, contact our office so we can help determine the best time for your first visit.
What Happens During the First Appointment?
Your first prenatal visit is usually more detailed than future visits. During this appointment, your provider may review your medical history, previous pregnancies, medications, lifestyle habits, and any symptoms or concerns you are experiencing.
You may also have lab work, a physical exam, and an ultrasound to confirm your pregnancy, estimate your due date, and check your baby's heartbeat when appropriate.
Questions to Ask Your Provider
Your first visit is a great time to ask questions about your pregnancy and what to expect. Common topics include prenatal vitamins, nutrition, exercise, safe medications, morning sickness, genetic testing, travel, and lifestyle changes.
No question is too small. Our team wants you to feel informed, supported, and confident throughout your pregnancy.
What Happens Next?
After your first appointment, your provider will discuss your recommended prenatal visit schedule and any upcoming testing. As your pregnancy progresses, visits will focus on monitoring your health, your baby's growth, and preparing you for labor and delivery.
